big advantages over traditional wood mounted stamps! MUCH less storage space than having a wood block on every stamp. Price: unmounted stamps are about half the price of mounted stamps, so you get much more for your money. Accuracy: Using clear acrylic instead of wood mounts means you can see exactly where your image is going to be stamped. Aleene's Tack It Over and Over: After trimming the stamp, apply a thin coat of Aleene's Tack It Over and Over to the back (you can use a brush to smooth it on). After it dries clear, (at least 30 minutes), it forms a sticky backing that adheres to the acrylic block and then just peels right off. When it eventually loses it's stickiness, just reapply. Double Stick Tape: The easiest method - just put a piece of double stick tape in the center of the acrylic block. Stick your unmounted stamp to it, and then peel it off when you're done. Eventually the tape will lose it's stickiness, and you just peel that piece off and put a fresh one on. HALOS Acrylic Blocks: These are specially made to work with hook and loop velcro tape on the clear acrylic blocks. Visit their website for more information on this innovative system. The acrylic blocks are available at Prairie Stamper. They also have a self-adhesive cushion that uses a cling back to stick to the acrylic blocks. Once you try using unmounted stamps, you'll be hooked. You can even unmount your wood mounted stamps - just microwave them on half power for about 20 seconds, and the die and the cushion just peel right off - freeing up still more storage space! |
